10 Reasons why the 80s were better…

1. KIDS STILL PLAYED OUTSIDE

Back when I was a kid, we spent every possible moment outside, riding bikes, playing whatever sport was in-season, or whatever else we could think of. Nowadays, the world is so full of perverts patrolling the neighborhoods for their lastest victim that we grown-up’s go out of our way to keep our kids inside. These days, when I see two or three kids outside, interacting socially, my first instinct is to look around and see if something’s wrong. Did their house catch fire?

Was there anything better before you discovered sex than getting a high score at the arcade?

arguably, even after we discovered sex, it still ruled.

Hey Darren. Thanks for the laugh, great article. My favorite was probably number 1 “kids played outside”, because this is my biggest rant. The most fun I ever had was playing outside. Any memory that brings a smile to my face happened outside. At holiday tables, we retell stories that ALWAYS happened outside. Street games, woods, swings on big trees, forts, broken bones, sports, stitches, schoolyards, bothering cranking neighbors, riding your bikes all over — all day and every day. The only thing I disagree on are the perverts. They were always there and will always will be. We’re just aware of it because of the media. When we were growing up, we pretty much only knew about what went on locally. But instead of educating the children, the parents of this generation keep them inside and make them afraid of the world. One day last summer IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, my son came home because all his friends went in “because it was too hot”. Imagine that?

Correction: America wasn’t a supreme power that instilled fear into the hearts of those who did not agree with us.
