10 Reasons why the 80s were better…

2. TV NEWS JOURNALISM STILL EXISTED

Just think, back in the 80′s, TV news consisted of an hour of national coverage each night on three networks. These days, we’re surrounded by 24-hour news networks, yet very little of what they broadcast would qualify as news, much less journalism. Instead, we are treated to hours and hours of commentary dressed up as fact, and only those stories that suit each network’s respective agenda are given air time. Makes me really miss Walter Cronkite, who may have had some very liberal personal views, but he kept them to himself and just reported the bleeping facts. Blowhards like Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and others should be ashamed, but so should the people who have so willingly allowed such low-lifes to dismantle the foundation of credible news journalism in this country.

Was there anything better before you discovered sex than getting a high score at the arcade?

arguably, even after we discovered sex, it still ruled.

Hey Darren. Thanks for the laugh, great article. My favorite was probably number 1 “kids played outside”, because this is my biggest rant. The most fun I ever had was playing outside. Any memory that brings a smile to my face happened outside. At holiday tables, we retell stories that ALWAYS happened outside. Street games, woods, swings on big trees, forts, broken bones, sports, stitches, schoolyards, bothering cranking neighbors, riding your bikes all over — all day and every day. The only thing I disagree on are the perverts. They were always there and will always will be. We’re just aware of it because of the media. When we were growing up, we pretty much only knew about what went on locally. But instead of educating the children, the parents of this generation keep them inside and make them afraid of the world. One day last summer IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, my son came home because all his friends went in “because it was too hot”. Imagine that?

Correction: America wasn’t a supreme power that instilled fear into the hearts of those who did not agree with us.
