10 Reasons why the 80s were better…

10. MTV STOOD FOR “MUSIC TELEVISION”
Yeah, that’s right, kids, before MTV taught you to worship a bunch of Guidos, they actually played music videos. In fact, within a year of debuting on cable providers across the country in 1981, the network succeeded in completely turning the music industry on its collective ear. Before long, every major label was bending over backwards, spending upwards of $1 million on a single music video, and then providing this content to MTV absolutely free-of-charge. Get a single camera, hire some dorky VJ to work for scale, and show videos around the clock. Sell tons of advertising and VOILA! I mean, do the math.
Apparently, that wasn’t good enough for MTV, though. At some point, they got greedy and decided that it would be better to open their wallet and start creating their own reality-based content. Next thing you know, ol’ Jed’s a millionaire. Snooki too. Blechhh.

Was there anything better before you discovered sex than getting a high score at the arcade?
arguably, even after we discovered sex, it still ruled.
Hey Darren. Thanks for the laugh, great article. My favorite was probably number 1 “kids played outside”, because this is my biggest rant. The most fun I ever had was playing outside. Any memory that brings a smile to my face happened outside. At holiday tables, we retell stories that ALWAYS happened outside. Street games, woods, swings on big trees, forts, broken bones, sports, stitches, schoolyards, bothering cranking neighbors, riding your bikes all over — all day and every day. The only thing I disagree on are the perverts. They were always there and will always will be. We’re just aware of it because of the media. When we were growing up, we pretty much only knew about what went on locally. But instead of educating the children, the parents of this generation keep them inside and make them afraid of the world. One day last summer IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, my son came home because all his friends went in “because it was too hot”. Imagine that?
Correction: America wasn’t a supreme power that instilled fear into the hearts of those who did not agree with us.
